Welcome to Cherai

Cherai is a destination for all to rejoice, rejuvenate and refresh their minds. Come to Cherai to enjoy the serene ambience and pristine beauty of the beaches here, to have a religious visit to the temples, church and fort and to make a journey through the life history of prominent personalities like Sahodaran Ayyappan and Mathai Manjooran.

Ideally placed 25 km away from Ernakulam town, Cherai is a small village in Vypin, an island in Kochi. For tourist visiting Kerala, Cherai means Cherai Beach. Unlike the beaches of Varkala and Kovalam, Cherai is less crowded, making the environment calm and unique. The 10 km long beach is considered to be the longest beach in Ernakulam district.

The Cherai Gowreeshwara temple at Cherai is a place where you can awaken your spiritual consciousness. You can also move on to Azheekkal Sree Varaha Temple, which is famous for its Chariot. Then there is a Portuguese Fort built in 1503 and Pallipuram Church built in 1577.

Cherai is also home to Sahodaran Ayyappan and Mathai Manjooran. Sahodaran Ayyappan, an honest follower of Sree Narayana Guru, was a social reformer, thinker and journalist and Mathai Manjooran was an Freedom Fighter from Kerala.
